Could it happen to you? Are you aware
that all homeowner policies exclude flood damage and loss? We are
often reminded that floods can occur in every state, and not just in
designated "floodplains." The National Flood Insurance Program
records
that 25% of all flood claims occur in low-to-moderate risk areas,
and the National Weather Service warns that storms in the U.S. are
getting more severe.
Please carefully review your
situation . Even if your property is not in a
designated floodplain, your home could be subject to rising waters
or flooding if unusually heavy rains were to settle over your
area. Unless you purchase flood insurance, you will not be
covered. The good news is that the cost for insurance for
low-to-moderate risk areas is relatively low, usually costing less than
$1 per day.
The standard flood policy
covers: -Structural damage, utility
connections, furnaces, central air conditioners and hot
water heaters. -Household contents, finished walls and floors
(these are not covered if located in the
basement) -Debris removal -$750
coverage for sandbagging and other reasonable expenses you may incur
in preparing for a flood
